TP316L Seamless Pipe
316L stainless steel pipe is a molybdenum-containing ultra-low carbon austenitic stainless steel. It significantly enhances corrosion resistance (especially against chloride ion pitting/crevice corrosion) by adding 2-3% molybdenum on the basis of 304/304L, while maintaining good workability. The core advantages and mechanism of 316L stainless steel pipes:
1. Molybdenum strengthening, forming stable molybdenum oxide to inhibit the penetration of chloride ions in the passivation film and increase the pitting potential (PREN≥28);
2. Ultra-low carbon, completely eliminating the risk of intergranular corrosion at 450-850°C after welding;
3. Nickel-chromium base, with 16%Cr and 10%Ni providing basic corrosion resistance and ductility.
Key application scenarios (conditions where 316L must be used):
High-chloride ion environments
Seawater cooling pipelines, Marine ballast water pipes, coastal chemical plants, low-heat water supply pipes.
Strong reducing acid media
Dilute sulfuric acid (≤20% concentration), sulfurous acid, acetic acid (pharmaceutical/food reaction vessel pipelines), pulp bleaching equipment.
Biomedical high-cleanliness systems
Injection water pipelines, biological fermentation tanks, GMP-level aseptic process pipelines.
High-temperature corrosive environment
Flue gas desulfurization spray pipe (60-80°C wet flue gas containing CI-), low-temperature heat exchanger (< 150°C medium containing chlorine).
The fatal weakness of 316L stainless steel pipes:
They will still suffer from pitting corrosion in a high-concentration chlorine environment above 80°C. At this time, super austenitic stainless steel (904L) or duplex steel (2205) should be selected.
The 316L stainless steel pipe complies with the standard ASTM A213/A312/A269.
